Lactation Consulting Services

If you are having trouble while breastfeeding, or if you are simply not sure if things are going well, schedule a private Lactation Consultation in your home, or the MotherBorn office. The consultation will last 90-120 minutes. A full medical history of mother and child will be recorded. Mother and child will be observed while breastfeeding and help with latch and positioning will be provided if needed. A pre-feed and post-feed weight of the baby will be taken showing how well the baby is able to breastfeed. Mother and Lactation Consultant will then have a full picture of the breastfeeding relationship and the areas that need to be improved. From this assessment, Mother and Lacation Consultant will create a plan to follow so that Mother can meet her breastfeeding goals. Your Lactation Consultant will stay in communication with you throughout the implemenation of the Lacation Care Plan. A healthcare report will be faxed to health care providers of Mother and Child (usually the Pediatrician, Ob-Gyn, Mid-Wife, and/or Primary Care Doctor) keeping them informed about the findings and recommendations. A detailed receipt will be provided for possible insurance reimbursement.

If you already had a full lactation consultation, a follow up visit is good when you need to be re-evaluated. This evualtion is about an hour long and will be tailored to your needs. An evalution is appropriate for pre and post feed weight checks to monitor baby's progress, latch and positioning, or any other concern that arrises.
